"MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY IS REACHING A TIPPING POINT: UPDATE ON OMT FROM AROUND THE WORLD" by Marc Moeller, Dir AOMT
AAPMD Myofunctional Therapy Webinars
Marc Moeller is the director of the Academy of Orofacial Myofunction Therapy and he has spoken at conferences around the world and published many articles. He updated the American Academy of Physiologic Medicine and Dentistry (AAPMD) members on the rise of understanding of the importance of Myofunctional Therapy worldwide. He showed images of a 3D assessment of the oropharyngeal airway in mouth breathers versus nasal breathers; it was easy to see that the airway is reduced in mouth breathers. He stated that research shows that the 2 hemispheres of the brain start to decrease in communication by age 6 in mouth breathing children. Therefore, it is imperative that we assess the airways of children in order to optimize nasal breathing. Myofunctional Therapists work with patients to improve nasal breathing and decrease mouth breathing. Myofunctional Therapy utilizes techniques and exercises to balance muscles of the face and mouth that directly affect facial growth, chewing, swallowing, speech, occlusion, and the temporomandibular joint to improve speech, swallowing, breathing, and sleeping.https://aomtinfo.org/
